it sometimes seems to me that the online rooms have flops with many more outs than" home or real" games or am i just being paraniod. ???

I had an argument with someone about odds the other day.  They were convinced that the flop favours higher cards.  Have been keeping an eye on the cards dealt and I can't see it myself.  Any reputable online poker room should have their card shuffling routine audited by an independant body to make sure that it is fair.

So I guess the jury is still out on that one!

i watched an interesting programme on Sky Travel channel last night, Vegas Confidential.  Anyway, it was all about professional cheats fleecing the casinos.

one techie nerd type guy had sussed out how to predict lottery numbers on an electronic Keno machine and how to beat slot machines. Respect.  Anyway, he went to jail for 10 years in Nevada.

his comment was that it is IMPOSSIBLE for a computer to generate a random number. i am not sure how true this is but as he had won a substantial amount of other peoples cash using this system, you have to wonder.

but officially, as the Fish says, most online poker sites require independent assessment of their software. for example:

"Integrity - Paradise Poker is pleased to provide our clients with the added comfort of an independent third party review of our shuffling. We engaged the services of the London office of PricewaterhouseCoopers, the world's largest professional services firm, to review our card shuffling.

The PWC shuffling review - "PricewaterhouseCoopers will continually review our shuffling on a quarterly basis, with all reports being displayed on the Paradise web site."

Hope that helps.

The guy who mentioned the impossibility of generating random numbers was a former employee of the Nevade Gaming Control Commission.  Food for thought eh?!

Absolutely right - no computer can produce a random number as they work on logic and randomness isn't a factor in logic.  It's actually a pretty tough thing to do well on a computer, but luckily it's been refined over the years and is now considered to be almost truely random.  How that randomness is then used to pick the cards is the most likely week point.

Based on some of the games I've played lately I'd say there was no truth in the fact that the flop favours the one with high cards  ::)

Forget the online poker. When was the last time you saw a legit shuffle at a league game? Except from the Deal. ;)
