Jimmy White remains for many the perennial "Peter Pan" of snooker, the local London boy with the impish grin and precocious talent. Ever since his first world final appearance in 1984, he has burdened with the tag of the greatest player never to win the world championship, and has been runner-up on six occasions in total.

Jimmy White's interest in gambling began as a child playing the slot machines - but it soon escalated into the big leagues.

"It was the whole five - it was horses, dogs, casinos, cards and perhaps a little bit of snooker betting. I earned 3m playing snooker and I'd say I've done 1m gambling - without a shadow of a doubt. The only thing that comes close to gambling in my life is actually playing snooker."

Jimmy White beat the odds to become the 2003 Ladbrokespoker.com Poker Million - The Masters champion at his first attempt. The unluckiest man in sport produced superb card playing strokes, including two crucial wins on last card turns to keep him in the competition, to claim his first professional tournament win. White beamed:

"I love playing poker. It's just great to win a big tournament against such class players. The buzz from playing and winning is similar to snooker, it's a fantastic feeling."
